about David Barthold
Born in 1959, David Barthold is a native New Yorker who draws subject matter for his drawings, prints and paintings from his personal experience of the city. He shows a particular fascination with the hardscrabble parkland, the often ugly and dissonant array of buildings and public works, and the fantastic variety and beauty of the people of Brooklyn.
David's contribution The Gift Project is a sketch of male figures worked up from photographs he took in McCarren Park in Greenpoint on a summer day in the early 1990s.
